Vitamin D Sun Exposure Estimator

Estimate the optimal minutes of sun exposure needed for Vitamin D synthesis based on skin type and UV index.

Estimates are for 25% of body exposed (e.g. face and arms). Never stay out long enough to burn.

How This is Calculated

Sun exposure time for ~1,000 IU Vitamin D depends on UV Index and skin type: Fair skin = 10–15 min at UV 3; Medium skin = 15–25 min at UV 3; Dark skin = 25–45 min at UV 3. Estimates assume 25% body surface area exposed (e.g., face and arms). Production plateaus after about 15–20 min for fair skin.
